Tyguy80s's News

Posted by Tyguy80s - January 20th, 2018

Philantrophy accomplished. The episode I voice acted for is here. Califlower's newer and I'm not a voice actor, so the cartoon's not that great but nonetheless it was fun to do on a whim. As far as the current music project, the third movement's being orchestrated with strings, bells, flutes, and mellow brass. It's this nocturne. In the full concerto I'll even tag a tuba solo at the end before a loud bombastic marching band-esqe movement. One of my Mom's prominment stories she told me of was when the tubist acciddently knocked into her and dinged her cornet. She'll totally get the reference, and if they were a real life it'd induce a giggle or two.

Thanks for reading. I'll post the orchestrated song probably within a couple days. What remains after the nocturne is the high school movements, the marching band and concert band which probably explore atonality some, since she did perform the Rite of Spring upon graduating. In other news, I leveled up to 16, woohoo, selfish stats! Maybe I'll dedicate a day to blamming and protecting and get a fancy badge that no one but myself'll care for XD I'll post again soon.

Something to look out for. I helped out some newer NG members and did a little voice acting and music. Robam3's cartoon will have music and CALIFLOWER will have some voice acting. Now, then... back to work on my Mother's Clarinet Concerto before she gets too sick to listen to it...

Speaking of the concerto. It seems I'm writing orchestra songs that aren't very much related, but perhaps it's like when I wrote the symphony, it's more or less a few songs somehow sandwiched together using interludes and clever modulation. Nonetheless. I'm currently working on an interlude. To follow Saxophonal Affairs, a tenor sax and clarinet duet, to represent my Mother floundering between the two instruments as her middle school band teacher had her do before settling on clarinet and trumpet in high school. Following "songs left"

Intro done

Elementary done

Middle School done, Finale clar/tenor sax duet needs composing

High School movement will feature a bombastic fanfare reminiscant of marching band repetoire used for halftime shows at school football games, then a clever symphonic work that could even be atonal, since Mom did practice the Rite of Spring and Mahler for those few years

The final movement will represent parenthood. How my Mother eventually "weened" off instruments since her children (me and my brothers) couldn't stand the loud piercing timbre of clarinet and trumpet/cornet. She wanted use to take up the instruments and play in band, but we simply weren't interested. These days, she's stuck in a wheelchair with a slew of physical conditions that frustrate her, hence why I write the concerto for her.

So that's the current happenings, helping out a few newer-grounders (see what I did there?), and chugging away at the concerto until it's finished because I hope my Mother'll hear it before she gets sicker. Thanks for reading everyone

Hello again!

So, in completing my Mother's Clarinet Concerto, the next step is to work on the Second Movement that represents her middle school experience. At the time, she moved on form flute and violin and played more the tenor sax. She realized her love for clarinets near the end of her middle school band time, so I'll have it sorta like a prelude, followed by a tenor sax and clarinet duet and maybe a little ending.

The rhythms more complicated and the orchestration less cookie cutter. Gah, I don't think I'm ever getting over that last movement. That was cheaply made, even for me! Nonetheless, it's coming along nicely. I started sketching the song using a saxophone sextet and then adding an instrument here and there, like clarinet, then oboe, then string section, then harp, timpani, triange, crotales, etc...

I'm having fun and am glad since I thought I was in a songwriting rutt for a bit. Oh well, usually the best thing when that happens is to take a brief break. Watch a movie, go for a workout or exercise, eat yummy food, appreciate art besides and including music, then see if you're not excited after that. Heck, I finally finished that motif I proposed on the forums a while back

That's the update so basically how the concerto's coming along. An idea though, perhaps for the finale I'll nod toward's Mahler 4th and have a female vocal part. My Mom played quite a bit of Mahler in high school. Nonetheless. "The annemeations of my mind are an enigma" - Patrick Star

A couple weeks of holidays and procrastination has past for me, and now I can present to y'all my latest music project. As a more developed musician and composer, I see it fit I produce something more lengthy and grander. Inspiration for this is my Mother. Recently, see's been sharing more and more of her stories from band class, starting from elementary school when she played the violin and flute, then to middle school where she played the tenor sax for a bit then discovered her love/fascination for clarinet, and high school where she went on to achieve colligete skill levels on that and trumpet too. She's told me the stories of the Mahler and Beethoven symphonies she absolutely hated and the marching band arrangements of Sir Duke and Send in The Clowns.

She's been growing sicker now too. So with a story to chronicle, developed songwriting skills, and an obligation, I'll embark on another creative journey for these next couple months or so to create a clarinet concerto in her name. It'll be a four movement orchestral suite, totaling what I'm guessing'll be around 20-30min. The prelude being one of them, the remaining three movements will represent Elementary, Middle, and High School. Instrumentation for each movement will vary some too, so added intriguige awaits us all.

I have Pandora fired up with Kenny G, The Beegees, and every Mahler symphony and I'm plotting evil... I mean music :) So that's what's up on this channel. Thanks for reading. Here's to making my Mother proud. After all, I wrote a symphony for two women not even half as close to me as my Mom is, so I believe it's time I return her the favor.

The piano transcriptions are completed. I've arranged it into score-read video form, but you can certainly find all sheet music on my IMSLP page. I've updated the piano versions of the songs present here on Newgrounds too, so feel free to check those out, I'll label the updated songs below the video.

Updated Tracks

Sad Flowers

Anew

Exhaltation

As far as what's next. I've decided... that I'll be taking on a clarinet concerto! My Mother has told me so many stories of her grade school band experiences, I've decided that I should finally do her a favor and write some music for her! I've named music after other newgrounders, and I've done so for a few ladies in my life; why not the most important lady in my life?

Being WAY more experienced now, I'll be able to more easily arrange the music and it should probably process quicker than the first symphony! That, and I'd imagine y'all who've followed me are probably sick of these mini songs I keep spitting out. My Mother's clarinet concerto will be somewhere near 20-30min., it'll include an intro, and three sonata-like movements. They'll somehow chronicle her stories. She prodominantly played clarinet and trumpet, but a slew of others and I'll make sure that each instrument gets a fun part. It'll have a saxophone section too, something more modern. The soloist will switch between the clarinet and bass clarinet.

Anyways, thanks for reading again. The piano versions are done and over with. I'll post a finished movement as I create them. New content might not come out for a while though since orchestral movements take some time to arrange. Maybe I'll experiment with VSTs instead of the midi arrangements too. Have fun and a happy holiday.

I've got the sheet music ready for the Sad Flowers collection. I got the score read video if that's what you're into. Fair warning, in the video the Alto Flute part's not transposed. Will report back once those piano transcriptions are provided. The piano versions of these songs will be posted on YouTube and IMSLP.org too, and if different from the piano versions already available here will simply replace the song file already present here on NG.

In the piano versions, I hope to more capture the spirit of the flute/sax collection versions of the songs. I've published the piano sketches/concept here, but of course when adapting for the woodwind consort I embelished and ornamented the music to fit the instruments. Now that I've got the ornaments there and know the vibe. It should be captured into piano songs since the piano would add a sort of depth with it's bass range and up to 10 note voicings; the versatility of the instrument more or less. A piano/keyboard's more accesible than finding 4 flautists and a tenor sax player that are willing to put up with each other  :P

Thanks for reading. I wish to ressume to other projects, but first I must finish the piano transcriptions and get this project out of my mind so that energy can really be focused into the next bit of fun music. Most likely, it'll be Romances For Viola/Violin. Thanks for reading and Happy Holidays.

Hello again!

Although I'm still not sure of the project's name yet, I'm sure that I've finished it's last song. It seems I'm not in that frame of mind anymore and the project was intended to be a shorter collection anyhow. Seven miniatures that total at about 15 minutes and 20 seconds I suppose is enough; especially if I'm not really inspired to write more for it. I'll work on the sheet music, the piano transcriptions and versions, and maybe make a little album cover myself, like some paperclip stickmen holding flutes and one playing a saxophone. Outta be as cute as the songs presented.

As far as what's next after this project's finished, I definitely want to move on to maybe the romances for viola/violin or maybe do that Frog Suite idea with the bassoon and oboe and strings sorta deal. I think I might write a organ solo or a bass clarinet solo in between. Imagination and the infinite world of creativity and music really.

Anyways, thanks for reading. I have more music in mind; just have to get it out of my head and into the software. Here's to the future and better things!

Another song for the Flutes & Sax project. Anew, I suppose I called it that since it's at a faster tempo, 180bpm, and I was going for something that didn't have the normal slower feel my music usually has. Good variety for this flute and sax project; it'll have different kinds of songs throughout. As far as what I'm going to call the album when finished... I've have a few ideas

Flutes & a Sax
Miniatures for Flutes & a Sax
Little Songs For Flutes & a Sax
Fluttery & Fuzzy...

It'll figure itself out in time. When it's done though, I'll upload all the sheet music and have piano transcriptions of all the songs too. After this, maybe the next project will be romances for viola/violin since I really enjoyed making that romance for viola and it got 235views in the single day when I uploaded the violin arrangement. Thanks for reading,

So, I've got another diddy out for y'all. The concept is a song for viola and piano. Heard this melody upon awakening, so I just had to transcribe it. I thought of a violin at first, but decided to go with a viola since I wanted more lower notes in this song. I even went dissonant in the middle section since adaMills suggested Lowell Liebermann's work to me. Go viola! Thanks to Merlin Vienna sound font from conversion-tool.com, I got a somewhat discernible viola sound.

I haven't abadoned the flutes and sax project, I'm just writing other material in between to avoid cycling through trite and uninspired passages that'd make the album boring to listen to. More to come. Thanks for reading.

Hello Again!

So, in the midst of furiously producing songs and sonatas. I heard a clarinet flowing through the air with a melody. I transcribed it and put a piano part to it and I wll share the result here on Newgrounds tomorrow. I will share it on YouTube tonight and will share the video here when finished. I'm still working on the Flute and Sax project, I wish to finish that suite. Afterwards, maybe I'll do that Frog suite thing as mentioned a while back in an earlier blog.

adaMills' sonata is something I'm really looking forward to hearing humanly performed. As an artist, it elicits joy and wonder to have my ideas realized and can't wait to hear how adaMills interperates the piece. It'll be worth the wait, I'm sure.

Thanks for reading. In short, a new song tomorrow night around 7pm US Eastern Time and more music to come with the Flutes & Sax project. adaMills sonata will come in due time. Have fun everyone!
