Saxophonal Soiree

Posted by Tyguy80s - January 10th, 2018

Hello again!

So, in completing my Mother's Clarinet Concerto, the next step is to work on the Second Movement that represents her middle school experience. At the time, she moved on form flute and violin and played more the tenor sax. She realized her love for clarinets near the end of her middle school band time, so I'll have it sorta like a prelude, followed by a tenor sax and clarinet duet and maybe a little ending.

The rhythms more complicated and the orchestration less cookie cutter. Gah, I don't think I'm ever getting over that last movement. That was cheaply made, even for me! Nonetheless, it's coming along nicely. I started sketching the song using a saxophone sextet and then adding an instrument here and there, like clarinet, then oboe, then string section, then harp, timpani, triange, crotales, etc...

I'm having fun and am glad since I thought I was in a songwriting rutt for a bit. Oh well, usually the best thing when that happens is to take a brief break. Watch a movie, go for a workout or exercise, eat yummy food, appreciate art besides and including music, then see if you're not excited after that. Heck, I finally finished that motif I proposed on the forums a while back

That's the update so basically how the concerto's coming along. An idea though, perhaps for the finale I'll nod toward's Mahler 4th and have a female vocal part. My Mom played quite a bit of Mahler in high school. Nonetheless. "The annemeations of my mind are an enigma" - Patrick Star
